ABS completed a high profile pre-demolition survey on a multi-storey office building this survey was part of a suite of projects to allow site clearance before construction of a major new education facility.

The Client – Tier 1 contractor
ABS has partnered with our client over a number of years carrying out a variety of surveys across the Western Infirmary site. Over this period we were able to deliver on extremely complicated surveys whilst on one of the largest live construction sites in Scotland.
Survey Competence
All surveyors are 7 years P402 qualified, with extensive experience across Commercial, Industrial and Domestic sites. They hold a valid IPAF certification and harness training to allow the use of a cherry picker.
LISTED FEATURES
This site has been vacant and known to be in a deteriorating condition with water ingress with general building debris present throughout. A detailed survey was carried out to ensure the team’s safety and highlight any potential risks. ABS then worked with other contractors to ensure that all hazardous materials (e.g. radioactive/biological) were removed before in advance.
IDENTIFIED aSBESTOS
Prior to survey pre-demolition survey commencement, our Managing Director and Quality Manager drafted a project brief and detailed RAMS for the clients approval and then worked closely with our experienced team to ensure full understanding of project scope.
Using the surveyor’s experience the survey highlighted the risks that may be present prior to the team entering the building.
Given the age and history of the building, there was a high likelihood of asbestos-containing materials in the building. Our survey team had to be extremely thorough in their survey method.
IDENTIFIED aSBESTOS
Findings were then communicated clearly with our client and the appointed Demolition contractor to ensure all asbestos was highlighted and removed safely.
