CDM (2015) Regulations – Keeping You Compliant
Asbestos is an extremely emotive and dangerous carcinogen. Around 3,000 products used to be manufactured containing asbestos fibres and it was only finally banned in 1999. Exposure to asbestos currently causes approximately 5,000 deaths in the UK per year. Projected fatalities are set to peak in 2020, as a result of lack of awareness and lack of protection against its deadly effects. After the nuclear industry, it is the second-most regulated industry in the UK and with very good reason…asbestos is the single greatest cause of work-related deaths.
The Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations are designed to protect you and your employees to ensure that you meet your duty of care in assessing risk in managing Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs). However, the new regulations ‘carry real teeth’ and failure to comply can have serious consequences, potentially leading to criminal prosecutions.
